Oral Competition

January is a time for enjoying the winter weather, getting back to routines and…speeches!
Public speaking is an integral part of growing up.  As teachers, we strive to ensure that the students’ experiences are positive and rewarding, resulting in increased self-esteem and confidence.
Students in grades one and two retell a story (either from a book or from their own personal experience). In our grade, students will be writing a fractured fairy tale and presenting their fairy tale in the competition. Then the student works to memorize the speech.  The speech should be between 3-5 minutes.

In class I will be outlining requirements and strategies for effective speech presentations.
Students will have time each day to work on speeches in class and to meet with me one on one.
In class speech presentations will take place either February 1, 2 or 3rd.  I will advise you of the specific date as I evaluate the students’ progression.

Some students will be selected to move on to present to the student body and judges in the gym on February 8, 2017.
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to foster this lifelong skill.
