Music: We had music with Ms. Hung today.

Inquiry into Language: We did our lesson 15 spelling test.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Language: We did our term 2 pre-assessment for our OWAs. The students wrote narratives about the day they became invisible.

Inquiry into Math: Today we learned about Fractions of a Whole! We learned that a fraction describes equal parts of a whole. The top number is called "The Numerator" which tells how many equal parts are counted. The bottom number is called "The Denominator" which tells you how many equal parts in total make up the whole. We did quite a few examples together as a class. We described and identified fractions. We learned that one-fifth is another way of saying 1 over 5.

CONCERT DAY!!

Christmas Concert Rehearsals

Reading Buddies: We went to read with our friends in Ms. King's and Ms. Fisher's class.















Inquiry into Language: We completed our Lesson 14 Spelling Test.

Silent Reading: We did 20 minutes of reading.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Language: We reviewed metaphors and took up yesterday's homework. We also used this period to catch up on outstanding homework.

UOI: Today we focused on FICTION! We watched two read alouds and using our flip books had to decide which book was a fantasy story and which was realistic fiction. We discussed the characteristics of both sub-genres.



Recess/Lunch

Door Decorating Contest: We brainstormed together our ideas and started to create things for our door. We had a lot of ideas!!

Christmas Concert Rehearsals

UOI: Today we used books to explore non-fiction text features. Students were partnered up to answer questions based on the book given to them and explain what non-fiction text feature they used to help them. I encouraged them to look at the table of contents, glossary and index to help them find their information with more effectively.









Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Language: We took up our homework on similes! We went through the answers together as a class and then watched a video explaining similes a little more.

As a class, we brainstormed some more similes together!
Inquiry into Math: We played an introduction game to fractions! With a partner, the students were given task cards that they had to solve. They couldn't move on to the next task card unless they checked in with me. We had a lot of fun solving these fraction tasks!


Oakwood Christmas Concert: We went to support our friends at Oakwood.

Lunch

Inquiry into Language: Today we explored metaphors. We watched a video to help us recognize the difference between a metaphor and a simile.

We worked on a worksheet together to help us understand the meaning behind the metaphor. They had to complete 3 sentences independently and find all the metaphors in a story.

Inquiry into Math: We did our Data Management Math Test.
Recess/Lunch 

Silent Reading: With all the hustle and bustle recently we haven't gotten a chance to read. So, we did 20 minutes of reading.
Concert Rehearsal 

Inquiry into Language: Today we learned what is a SIMILE! A simile is a figure of speech that directly compares two things using like or as. For example: She is as beautiful as a rose. I am hungry like a bear. We created a t-chart with one side for similes and the other side was for metaphors. We  organized different sentences under the correct figurative language device.





Recess/Lunch 

Gym: Ms. Yustin took our class today as they missed a few lessons recently due to the Concert.
