We took some class pictures!

Recess/Lunch.

UOI: Each student was given a tiny brown paper bag with a piece of fabric, leather, paper, yarn, a dice and two marbles. With those materials they had to create a game or toy that children in the pioneer era could play with. Right away the students found this activity quite difficult because they wanted to use things like tape or a glue stick but quickly realized that back then they didn’t have those supplies. It was amazing to see them work with their teams to create solutions so they could make a fun game.

We had a lot of fun today! Especially at the Halloween Dance!

Math:. Today we began exploring multiplication and the use of arrays!

For every array you must write out the multiplication sentence, the equation in words, addition sentence, and sentence of describing the array.

For example in this array:

Sentence describing the array: We always look at the rows (which go from side to side) and count how many items are in each row.    -->  4 rows of 2 = 8

Multiplication sentence- 4 x 2 = 8

Addition sentence- 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8

Equation in words: We always look at the rows separated like picture groups and count how many items are in each row.  -->  4 groups of 2 = 8

We did a few examples on the board and from the textbook!

Recess/Lunch.

UOI: We read about the four-different type of homes that pioneers lived in. Log cabins, plank houses, sod house and stone house. We each took turns reading different parts of the story. We answered the comprehension questions independently, checked our work with a partner when we were done and took them up as a class.
